Disability Sports Northern Territory (DSNT) is pleased to announce the renewal of funding from the Northern Territory Government for the 2024/25 financial year.
This continued support will enable DSNT to expand its work to increase participation in sport for people with disability across the Territory.
The funding will underpin a series of key initiatives focused on building sector capability, improving access to inclusive programs, and strengthening partnerships with community and sporting organisations.
A major focus for the year ahead will be the launch of a new Tiered Partnerships Program. This initiative will see DSNT collaborate with leading sporting bodies to co-design and implement adaptive sports programs that enhance participation and accessibility for people with disability across the NT.
Development opportunities for coaches and sports administrators will also continue to grow. By building skills and confidence, these initiatives will support the delivery of high-quality, inclusive programs. A review of current training activities will help improve their effectiveness and impact.
DSNT will also work to strengthen participation pathways for young people with disability. Greater clarity and coordination within the sector will support more consistent and connected opportunities for youth engagement in sport.
In addition, a new partnership with Sport4All will address the need for universally designed sporting environments. This collaboration will focus on improving the accessibility of local sports facilities and expanding opportunities for community participation throughout the Northern Territory.
Sam Cunningham, Business Unit Manager of Disability Sports Northern Territory, welcomed the renewed investment and highlighted the importance of innovation and collaboration:
“We are excited to continue working with our sports partners, participants, and stakeholders across the Territory. The continued support from the Northern Territory Government and the addition of our partnership with Sport4All will further strengthen our efforts to create inclusive and accessible sport opportunities for people with disability. The introduction of our Tiered Partnerships Program marks an important step forward in shaping the future of adaptive sport in the NT.”
DSNT remains committed to advancing inclusive sport across the Northern Territory and looks forward to achieving new milestones in the year ahead.
